AGAPE IS
"LOVE: THE HIGHEST FORM OF LOVE, CHARITY; THE LOVE OF GOD FOR MAN AND OF
MAN FOR GOD." Not to be confused with "phileo" - brotherly love
- agápe embraces a universal, unconditional love that transcends, that serves
regardless of circumstances. The noun form first occurs in the Septuagint, but
the verb form goes as far back as Homer, translated literally as affection, as
in "greet with affection" and "show affection for the
dead." Other ancient authors have used forms of the word to denote love of
a spouse or family, or affection for a particular activity, in contrast to philia
(an affection that could denote friendship, brotherhood or generally non-sexual
affection) and eros, an affection of a sexual nature.
Christianity
developed Agape as the love originating from God or Christ for humankind. In
the New Testament, it refers to the covenant love of God for humans, as well as
the human reciprocal love for God; the term necessarily extends to the love of
one's fellow man. Although the word did not have a specific religious
connotation, it has been used by a variety of contemporary and ancient sources,
including biblical authors and Christian authors.
The notion
of agape has been examined as to traditions, whether Judeo-Christian or other
world religions, religious ethics, and science.

One of the
prominent part of Lord’s prayer is ,” Forgive our sins as we forgive those who
have sinned against us .” We may
encounter many things as we come on this topic:
* Well you
do not know what he did to me?
* She
intended to destroy me.
* They deserve
to suffer like this because they wronged me .
* I was
sexually abused . I can’t ever forgive him.
C.S. Lewis
said, “ Everyone says, “ Forgiveness is a lovely idea until they have something
to forgive .”
There are
two parts of observation n both are very important.
“ Do not
judge and you will not be judged .
Do not
condemn and you will not be condemned.
Forgive and
you will
be forgiven. (Luke 6:37).
There’s
another way of saying , “ Love keeps no record of wrongs. “(1 Cor 13:8). When
Jesus was hung on the cross, in that dying moment he uttered those words,”
Father! Forgive them for they know not what they are doing .”( Luke 23:34).
Those 11
words just takes away our shabby excuses. Let me make this very clear when
Jesus died, people who put him to death were really pleased with themselves .
But Jesus asked for their forgiveness. This is precisely we must say to those
who hurt us deliberately n repeatedly n those who intentionally attack us,
those casually and thoughtlessly wound us. Jesus gave us an example to follow.
He died . Everything was over. People hated him with fierce, irrational hatred.
Evil was in the air that day. Forces of darkness had done their work and son of
God would soon be in the tomb. Jesus’ story was over. But God had diiferent
plans for Jesus. After three days God resurrected him from the dead because
Jesus’ reward came from the lord. This is the essence of forgiveness that wipes
your enemies out. As you forgive those who have wronged you, God is going to
take over and reward you as His word says, ‘Vengeance is mine.’
